In the name
of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to
God, and peace and blessings be upon His chosen servants.
I begin by
saying: If the Hajj falls on a Friday, then the Prophet's birthday will be on a
Monday. The lunar month is 29.35 days. Based on simple calculation, if the Day
of Arafah falls on a Friday, the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, then the 12th of Rabi'
al-Awwal will be a Monday. This is calculated by adding 20.35 days for
Dhul-Hijjah, 29.35 days for Muharram, 29.35 days for Safar, and 12 days for the
Prophet's birthday in Rabi' al-Awwal. Consequently, the Hajj of the Year of the
Elephant preceded the Year of the Elephant by a Friday, because the Prophet
(peace and blessings be upon him) was born on a Monday in Rabi' al-Awwal and
passed away at the age of 63, 11 years after the Hijra. Monday
Can we
definitively say that there is a 63-year lunar cycle, from the Year of the
Elephant to 2014 CE, in which Hajj (the Day of Arafah) falls on a Friday and
the Prophet's Birthday (Mawlid) falls on a Monday?
The sun and
moon are mentioned in more than one place in the Quran.
God
dedicated entire chapters to them: Surah Ash-Shams (The Sun), Surah Al-Qamar
(The Moon), and Surah Al-Fil (The Elephant).
What
happened at the birth of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him,
his family, and his companions) is well-known in the biography.
